MG Motor India is all set to launch its first SUV – Hector in India in June 2019. The company has joined hands with Myles to offer this premium SUV with a subscription model. The tie-up between the two brands will enable potential customer to try out the MG Hector and other upcoming cars without buying them. The British brand will also utilise Myles existing network in addition to the planned 110 sales and service outlets.
The new tie-up will cost over Rs 250 crore in the first phase. The second phase of the partnership is expected to be commenced after the introduction of brand’s second model. The second model from MG Motor India will be an all-electric SUV, which will be based on the MG eZS.
The MG Hector is based on the Baojun 530, which is already on sale in the Chinese market. The SUV will take on the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Tata Harrier. The company will initially launch the 5-seater model, which will be followed by a seven-seat model. The MG Hector SUV will be equipped with several segment-leading features, which should give it an upper-hand over the competition.
The MG Hector SUV will be available with 2 engine options – a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.0-litre diesel engine. The diesel engine is the same unit that powers the Jeep Compass, offering 170bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. On the other hand, the turbocharged petrol engine produces 162bhp and 200Nm of torque. Myles is a car sharing and car subscription company, which has a network spread across 21 major cities of the country. The MG Hector SUV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 16 lakh – Rs 22 lakh.
