MG Hector Teaser

The MG Hector will directly rival the likes of Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson.

The long-awaited MG Hector SUV is expected to be launched in May 2019. A new media report claims that the company will begin mass production of the SUV from April 28, 2019. This model will directly rival the likes of Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and the Hyundai Tucson. With close to 75% localisation, the Hector is expected to carry a competitive pricing.

The MG Hector SUV will initially come in a five-seat version only. It is basically the re-engineered Baojun 530 SUV, which is currently on sale in the Chinese market. In fact, the design is hugely identical to the Chinese sibling. However, the Hector gets MG’s front grille to give it a family look. The SUV gets large chrome meshed front grille, dual headlamp design with LED daytime running lamps on top and LED headlights placed lower on the front bumper. Other design highlights include faux skid plates, sloping roof, ORVMs with integrated blinkers, roof rails, diamond-cut alloys, LED tail-lights, etc. Also See – MG Hector SUV – 10 Interesting facts to know

The MG Hector’s cabin design is inspired by the Wuling Almaz SUV, which has recently unveiled in Indonesia. It gets segment-first 10.4-inch portrait touchscreen infotainment system, which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV is also claimed to be India’s first Internet car, featuring in-built SIM for internet and has the ability to receive over-the-air updates. Other features include a 360 degree surround view camera, a Harman sourced Infinity audio system, 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, start/stop button, cruise control, a tyre pressure monitoring, automatic climate control and many more.

The MG Hector SUV will be available with 2 engine options – a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a FCA sourced, 2.0-litre diesel. While the former is capable of producing 143bhp and 250Nm, the oil burner is good for 170bbp and 350Nm of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels will come as standard, while a six-speed torque convertor AT will be offered as optional with the turbo petrol engine.
