MG Motor has recently revealed the studio shots of the much-awaited MG Hector SUV in India. The company has also showcased the SUV to the dealerships at the drive-in event. The live exterior and interior images of the Hector SUV have been leaked from the dealer preview event. MG Motor India will initially start with 50 dealerships and 120 touchpoints in India. The production of the new Hector SUV have already been started at the SAIC’s Halol based plant in Gujarat. The MG Hector is expected to be launched in May 2019, while deliveries are likely to begin in June 2019.

The MG Hector SUV is based on the Baojun 530 SUV, which is currently on sale in the Chinese market. In fact, the new-generation Chevrolet Captiva for ASEAN markets is based on the Chinese sibling. The SUV features the similarly styled front hexagonal grille with chrome surround and MG logo at the centre, dual-split headlamps with LED daytime running lights, large central air-dam and aluminum skid plate at the bottom of the lower bumper. The side profile also resembles the Chinese counterpart, featuring squared wheel arches, machine cut wheels, blackened pillars and body-coloured ORVMs with integrated blinkers. At the back, the SUV gets single-piece LED tail-light, integrated roof-spoiler, shark fin antenna and skid plate on the bumper.

The MG Hector SUV is claimed to be the most-advanced in its category. It features the segment-largest 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with TomTom IQ Maps navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Vodafone eSIM. This system also works as a display for the reverse camera. Other features will include multi-functional steering wheel, automatic air-conditioning, leather seats, rear AC vents, segment-largest panoramic sunroof, 360 degree surround camera, etc.

The MG Hector SUV will be available with 2 engine options – a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel. The petrol engine will be coupled to a 48V battery, which makes it the only petrol-hybrid model in its category. This engine produces 143bhp of power and 250Nm of torque. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. The diesel engine is sourced from FCA, which also powers the Jeep Compass. This engine is likely to produce 173bhp and 350Nm.
