MG Hector Plus Coming Soon; To Challenge Tata Gravitas

MG Hector Plus Launch Date

MG Motor India resumed operations at its Halol based facility and with this it has also begun testing the upcoming Hector Plus 6/7-seater SUV in the country. The SUV made its public debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo and is slated to launch by July/August period. It will be priced around Rs 1 lakh premium over the standard 5-seater model and take head-to-head against the upcoming Tata Gravitas.

Compared to the regular model, the MG Hector Plus will be 40mm longer and offer more cabin space for the rear seat occupants. The overall width and height, however, remain unchanged. While its 6-seater model will have captain seats for the second row passengers, the 7-seater version will get bench seats with 60:40 split ratio.

Design bits such as all-black front grille without chrome surround, newly-designed headlamps and fog lamps, updated bumper, thicker LED DRLs, positioning of reflectors and reverse light and LED light on the tailgate distinguish the MG Hector Plus from the standard model. No changes will be made under the hood. Similar to the 5-seater Hector, the bigger SUV will come with a 1.5L turbo-petrol, 1.5L petrol with 48V mild hybrid system and 2.0L diesel powertrains. While the turbo-petrol motor is good enough for 143bhp and 250Nm, the oil burner produces a peak power of 170bhp and 350Nm of torque. There will be two gearboxes on offer – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed dual-clutch unit.

After the Hector Plus, the British carmaker will bring in the MG Gloster SUV during festive season. The premium 7-seater SUV will be equipped with a new 218bhp, 2.0L twin-turbocharged diesel engine with both manual and automatic gearbox. Dimensionally, it will be bigger than the cars like Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Packed with lots comfort goodies and safety fitments, the Gloster is estimated to cost around Rs 28 lakh – Rs 35 lakh.
