MG Hector mass-production begins; official debut on May 15

The MG Hector SUV is scheduled to make its global debut on May 15, 2019

MG Motors India has rolled out the first production version of Hector from its state-of-the-art facility at Halol in Gujarat. The company claims that the Hector has entered into commercial production after one million kilometers of testing in diverse road and climatic conditions across India. The SUV has received over 300+ India specific changes to meet the customer preferences and road conditions.

MG Motors will start its India innings with 65 showrooms across 50 cities. The MG Hector will make its global debut on May 15, 2019. Pre-orders for the SUV will commence in the month of June 2019. The company has invested Rs 2,200 crores in its Gujarat plant to roll out the Hector. The company has set up new assembly line, new press shop, new body shop, new parts distribution centre, testing track and a state-of-the-art training facility in the plant, within a short span of 18 months. MG’s Halol plant currently has a production capacity of 80,000 units per annum and has the provision to increase the capacity going forward depending upon the requirement.

The MG Hector is claimed to be India’s first Internet car, which has next-gen iSmart technology with a segment-first 10.4-inch vertically stacked touchscreen infotainment system. The SUV also supports Over the Air (OTA) technology, which allows customers to update software, features, themes, and infotainment content. The SUV will also get several high-end features including large panoramic sunroof, leather seats, 360 degree camera, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control and many more. The MG Hector SUV will be offered in 2 engine options – a Fiat sourced 2.0-litre turbodiesel and a 1.5-litre turbopetrol. While the former is good for 171bhp and 350Nm, the turbocharged petrol engine produces 143bhp and 250Nm of torque. The petrol version will also come with a mild-hybrid technology that has 48V battery. This model is claimed to be 12% more fuel efficient than the regular petrol variant. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.
