MG Gloster Vs Toyota Fortuner Price

Toyota Fortuner Rs 28.18 lakh – Rs 33.95 lakh
MG Gloster Rs 35 lakh – Rs 40 lakh

The British automaker claims that the new Gloster will sit above the D-segment SUVs including the Fortuner and the Endeavour. The SUV is expected to be priced somewhere between Rs 35 lakh and Rs 40 lakh. It will be brought as a CKD unit and will be assembled at the company’s Halol based plant in Gujarat.

The Fortuner SUV is available in the price bracket of Rs 28.18 lakh – Rs 33.95 lakh. The 4×2 manual and automatic petrol variants are priced at Rs 28.18 lakh and Rs 29.77 lakh respectively. There are four diesel variants 4X2 manual, 4X2 automatic, 4X4 manual and 4X4 automatic are priced at Rs 30.19 lakh, Rs 32.05 lakh, Rs 32.16 lakh and Rs 33.95 lakh respectively. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

The MG Gloster is the biggest SUV in its category. In fact, the SUV is as large as the Toyota Land Cruiser and Jeep Cherokee. The SUV measures 5,005mm in length, 1,932mm in width and 1,875mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2950mm.

In terms of proportions, the Toyota Fortuner SUV is 4,795mm long, 1,855mm wide and 1,835mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,745mm. The Gloster is 210mm longer, 77mm wider and 40mm taller than the Fortuner. In fact, the wheelbase is 20mm longer than the segment-leader.


The Gloster is basically the re-badged Maxus D90, which is on sale in China. In the global markets, it is available with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 224bhp and 360Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic. The SUV is available in RWD and 4WD options, along with the multiple drive modes – Sport, Eco, Rock, Sand, Mud, Snow and Auto.

In India, the Gloster will be powered by a new 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine. This engine is based on the Fiat’s 2.0-litre MJD II turbocharged diesel Powertrain. It is capable of producing of 218bhp of power and 480Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic versions will be on offer.

The Toyota Fortuner is available with 2 BS6 compliant engines – a 2.7-litre, 4-cylinder petrol and a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel. While the former is capable of producing 163bhp of power and 245Nm of torque, the oil burner is good for 174bhp and 420Nm. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Fortuner Vs Gloster Features

The Gloster SUV is claimed to offer segment-leading interior, which is designed with plush materials. In terms of features, the SUV gets an 8-inch multi-info instrument console, 3-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, iSmart connected car technology, leather upholstery and electrically adjustable front seats with heating, ventilation and massage functions.

For passengers’ safety and security features, the MG Gloster gets six airbags, brake assist, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), Hill-hold control, Hill descent control, rear parking camera, front parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring system and a 360 degree camera.

Toyota Fortuner Rear

The segment-leader Toyota Fortuner comes equipped with features like 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav, engine start/stop button, cooled glove box, automatic climate control and multi-functional steering wheel. The SUV misses out on key features like electric sunroof and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. For passengers’ safety and security, the Fortuner gets seven airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, downhill assist control, hill assist control, etc.
