MG Comet EV – India’s Smallest Car Coming Next Month

The much-awaited MG Comet EV will be introduced in our market in April, 2023. MG Motor India has recently revealed the 2-door electric vehicle via official images. Measuring just 2.9 meters in length, the Comet will be the smallest passenger vehicle in our market. In fact, it is smaller than the Tata Nano. The new model is expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom, India). It will rival the likes of the Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3.

The MG Comet electric vehicle will be designed on the brand’s new Global Small Electric Vehicles (GSEV) platform. It is a compact car with a tall and boxy stance. The Comet EV looks largely identical to the Wuling Air EV on sale in Indonesia. The charging port is placed at the middle of the front fascia under the MG branding, which is similar to the one offered in the MG ZS EV.

At the front, the Comet electric vehicle gets dual, vertically stacked headlamps, LED daytime running lamps with integrated turn indicators, and a dual-tone front bumper. There is an LED light bar below the windscreen with a chrome strip that runs across the width to merge the ORVMs. The company has released multiple images of the Comet, and all the models will have dual-tone colour theme.

The MG Comet EV will have a large rear quarter glass for airy feel inside the cabin. The small car will run on small 12-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. At the back, the small EV will have a high-mounted stop lamp, vertically stacked tail-lamps, and a flat rear bumper with a licensing plate housing.

Despite being compact in design, the MG Comet EV promises to offer several comfort and convenience features to occupants. The cabin will share features and design layout with the Air EV. It will have a layered dashboard in dual-tone shade. The small car will have sleek air-con vents, traditional rotary knobs for AC controls, a multi-functional two-spoke steering wheel and a large single-piece screen for digital instrument console and touchscreen infotainment unit.

The hatchback will have a dual 10.25-inch display – one for the infotainment and one for instrumentation, an automatic air-conditioning, keyless entry, connected car tech and steering mounted controls.

Powertrain

The MG Comet EV will share the battery pack options with the Wuling Air EV. The entry-level variant could get a 17.3kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 200kms. The high-end variant will have a 26.7kWh battery pack with a claimed range of around 300kms on a single charging.
