MG Astor SUV Launch In Q3, 2021 – Hyundai Creta Rival

MG Motors will launch the petrol version of the ZS mid-sized SUV, which is rumoured to be called the Astor. The company hasn’t reveal the exact launch timeline, but Rajeev Chaba, president & MD, MG Motor India confirmed that the brand will launch new SUV in the third quarter of 2021. This means that the MG Astor will launch between July and September 2021, before Diwali.

The MG Astor mid-sized SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The SUV measures 4,314mm in length, 1,809mm in width and 1,644mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,585mm. The wheelbase is around 25mm less than the Hyundai Creta. It offers a ground clearance of 205mm.

The MG Astor will come in petrol version only. It is likely to come with two engine options – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol and a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol. The naturally-aspirated petrol will produce around 120bhp and 150Nm of torque. On the other hand, the turbocharged engine is capable of producing 163bhp and 230Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic version will be on offer. The turbocharged Astor will be significantly more powerful than the Creta’s 138bhp, 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine.

The MG Astor is likely to cost around Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh. It is rumoured to be the segment-first model to feature the level 1 autonomous technology – ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). The SUV could receive active driver assistance features such as autonomous emergency braking system, blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, front collision warning and hands-free auto parking.

In terms of styling, the MG Astor will share styling cues from the global-spec ZS Petrol. This model gets a prominent front grille, sharper headlamps with LED DRLs, and new bumper, new LED tail-lamps, revised bumper and new alloy wheels. In terms of features, the mid-sized SUV gets a larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, MG iSmart connected car technology, panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control, automatic AC, 360 degree camera and others.
