At the 2020 Auto Expo, Mercedes-Benz had showcased the A-Class sedan (also known as A-Class Limousine). The sedan was scheduled to be launched soon after the Auto event; however, the launch delayed due to Coronavirus outbreak. A new media report claims that the new Mercedes A-Class sedan will arrive in the next 1 months, before Diwali 2020.
The German luxury carmaker will first launch the performance-oriented AMG version of the A-Class sedan, called the AMG A35. This variant comes with sportier all-wheel-drive system and aggressive design highlights. In terms of styling, the AMG A35 gets aggressive front design with striking bumper, karger side skirts, bigger alloys and gurney-flap-like spoiler on the bootlid. There are large exhaust pipes that stick out from under the rear bumper.
AMG treatment is also visible inside the cabin, as it gets sporty design elements like AMG bucket seats and steering wheel, a Burmester surround sound system, LED ambient lighting, a sunroof and twin 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrumentation. This variant is expected to be priced around Rs 60 lakh.
The report further claims that the regular Mercedes A-Class sedan is expected to be launched in November-December 2020. This variant will come with less powerful petrol and diesel engines. The A-Class comes with longer wheelbase and a more conventional sedan roof, which makes it look different from the CLA four-door Coupe that sports pillar-less doors.
The Mercedes A-Class diesel will be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine producing 194bhp. This version will directly rival the newly launched BMW 220d Gran Coupe. The petrol version is likely to receive the 185bhp, 2.0-litre engine. Both motors will be paired to a 7-speed G-DCT dual-clutch gearbox.
In terms of proportions, the A-Class is 4,549mm long, 1,796mm wide and 1,466mm tall. It sits on a 2729mm long wheelbase and offers a boot space of 420-litres. It is designed on the brand’s MFA (Modular Front Architecture) platform that also underpins the new CLA and GLA.
Expected to be priced somewhere around Rs 40 lakh, the new Mercedes A-Class gets LED headlamps, a fully free-standing cockpit with three display options, MBUX infotainment system with navigation and a connected car technology, active brake assist, panoramic sunroof, etc.
