Maruti’s Creta Rival Likely Debut In Aug-Sept; Engine Details Out

Toyota is all set to unveil its much-awaited mid-sized SUV, codenamed D22 on July 1, 2022. Rumoured to be called the Toyota Hyryder, the new SUV is co-developed by Toyota and Maruti Suzuki. Toyota will also supply this SUV to Maruti Suzuki, and later will sell the revised model via NEXA dealership.

Codenamed Maruti YFG, the new model is expected to be introduce soon after the debut of the Toyota Hyryder. It is likely to be unveiled in August-September with launch expected before Diwali. The new model will be sold exclusively through NEXA premium dealership network.

New Maruti YFG SUV

Both Toyota D22 and Maruti YFG SUVs will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based manufacturing facility in Karnataka. The new Maruti YFG will be based on Toyota’s heavily localised TNGA-B or DNGA modular architecture. Not just platform, both SUVs will share most of the components and powertrains.

It is reported that the new Maruti YFG will be offered with the 1.5-litre petrol engines benefitted with mild and hybrid technology. The mild hybrid version will be offered with manual and automatic gearbox options. The strong hybrid unit will only come with an e-CVT unit, which is similar to the one offered in the recently launched Honda City Hybrid.

The design of the new Maruti YFG will look different from the Toyota’s Hyryder. It is likely to share styling cues from the Suzuki A-Cross on sale in the European markets. The SUV will come with high-end features such as a large floating touchscreen infotainment system with the wireless connectivity, a Heads-Up Display, semi-digital instrument console, a 360 degree camera, connected car tech, ventilated front seats and 6 airbags. Reports also suggest that the new SUV could also get ADAS features.
