We reported earlier that Maruti Suzuki will launch the much-awaited Maruti XA Alpha concept based sub-compact SUV in 2015-16. Speaking to Reuters, RC Bhargava said that the company will launch the all-new SUV in the first quarter of 2016. The sub-4 metre SUV model would directly compete against the Ford EcoSport.
The XA Alpha based mini SUV is four-meter in length, 1.9 meter in width and 1.6 meter in height, and it has a decent wheelbase of 2.5 meter. The sub-4 meter EcoSport rival is expected to come in two engine options- 1.2-litre K Series petrol and 1.5-litre Fiat sourced Multi-Jet diesel motor. The 1.5L engine is the downsized version of the powerful 1.6L MJD, and it will allow the company to enjoy the excise cut benefit on sub-4 meter cars with displacement less than 1.5L.
Maruti Suzuki India will introduce the SX4 S-Cross crossover in January, 2015. It will rival against the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Mahindra Scorpio. Adding to it, the country’s largest manufacturer is also aiming to launch the Vitara mid-sized SUV in 2017-18.
