Maruti Vitara Brezza, S-Cross petrol variants to debut at 2020 Auto Expo

We informed you earlier that Maruti Suzuki will launch the petrol versions of the Vitara Brezza and S-Cross in India. A new media report claims that the petrol powered Brezza and S-Cross will make their debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. Maruti Suzuki has already announced that it will phase out diesel cars by April 2020. A February reveal at the biennial event will give enough time to buyers looking to drive home diesel models. Adding to it, Maruti will have ample time to phase out diesel variants before introducing the petrol versions of the popular SUVs.

The Maruti Vitara Brezza is likely to receive the new 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology that recently debuted in the Baleno hatchback. This BSVI compliant engine pushes out 90bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. Previous media report claims that the Vitara Brezza could receive the 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that also powers the Ciaz and the Ertiga. With this powertrain, the Brezza won’t be able to gain tax benefits on cars below 4 meter in length and 1200cc petrol engine.

With the dual-jet petrol engine, the BSVI compliant Maruti Vitara Brezza is likely to get cheaper by up to Rs 30,000. The company could also use the 1.2-litre K-series engine that also powers the Swift and Dzire. However, this engine will be less powerful than the competition. Maruti could fit the 1.5-litre diesel engine in the new Vitara Brezza; however, nothing official has been revealed.

The Maruti S-Cross sits above 4 meter in length and will require bigger capacity petrol engine. It will be powered by the 1.5-litre K15B Smart Hybrid petrol engine that churns out 104bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. The introduction of petrol engine will also reduce the prices of the S-Cross crossover.
