Maruti Suzuki is planning to phase out the first-generation Swift Dzire in India by March 2017. The compact sedan’s first-gen model is, currently, on sale as Maruti Swift Dzire Tour that serves the fleet market. According to a latest report, this move will make way for the new-generation Dzire, which is due for March 2017. The Maruti Swift Dzire Tour’s production end will also free up capacity for producing high-demand models such as Baleno hatchback, Vitara Brezza compact SUV and the upcoming Ignis crossover.
The report further states that the second-generation Dzire could be introduced as replacement to the Maruti Swift Dzire Tour. As a reminder, the Indo-Japanese carmaker re-introduced the stripped-down version of the old Dzire in the corporate and taxi segment in March 2012. Talking about the sale figures, Maruti Suzuki sells the Swift Dzire Tour with an average monthly sales of 2,500 – 3,000 units. The aspects that worked in favour of the Swift Dzire Tour (first-gen model) was its practicality, spacious cabin and the decent ride quality. With the new-generation model, Maruti Suzuki aims to maintain its sales momentum in the market. Set to rival the Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire and VW Ameo, the 2017 Maruti Swift Dzire will come with signification exterior and interior upgrades. The compact sedan will also receive a few mechanical updates such as a SHVS mild hybrid system, an AMT or CVT gearbox.
