Maruti Swift CNG and Dzire CNG Variants Coming Soon

Maruti Suzuki is aiming to sell over 2 lakh CNG passenger cars annually by 2022

Maruti Suzuki is all set to introduce an all-new in-house developed 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine. This engine will power the new Ertiga, Ciaz, S-Cross and Vitara Brezza. The Indo-Japanese automaker is reportedly planning to introduce the Petrol-CNG variants of the Swift and the Dzire. The new fuel variants could be the part of company’s effort to introduce an alternative fuel options to the costly BSVI diesel engines for its small cars.

A new media report claims that Suzuki Motor Corp. has asked dealerships to bid for licenses to set up CNG-dispensing fuel stations. The company plans to sell about 2 lakh CNG passenger cars annually by 2022. Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the Compressed Natural Gas-powered Ertiga in the country by April 2019.

Post BSVI emission norms, the diesel engine prices will significantly increase. The price gap between petrol and diesel cars is likely to further increase. Media reports claim that the gap could widen up to Rs 2.5 lakh from the current 1 lakh. In order to give an alternative and affordable fuel option, brands are considering petrol-CNG and hybrid cars for the Indian market.

The upcoming stringent norms will require cars to become at least 30 percent more fuel efficient by 2022. In order to achieve this target, Maruti Suzuki is exploring new options including full-hybrid powertrains. Suzuki has recently joined Toyota to develop new powertrains, electric cars, platforms and technologies for the Indian market. Also See – Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Cars In India
