Maruti Suzuki’s 2 Popular Cars To Get Strong Hybrid Tech

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is the first strong hybrid car from the Indo-Japanese automaker in the country. The SUV model lineup comes in 6 trims and only top two trims (Zeta+ and Alpha+) are available with the strong hybrid powertrain. The latter comes with the Toyota-sourced 92bhp, 1.5L, 3-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol engine coupled to an 79bhp, electric motor. The setup with an e-CVT gearbox, delivers a combined power output of 115bhp. It offers a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.97kmpl.

Now, the company plans to introduce the strong hybrid technology to its existing and the upcoming models. The new-generation Maruti Swift and Dzire will be among the top receivers of the Atkinson cycle, which are reported to hit roads in 2024. The all-new Swift might make its global debut in the second half of 2023. The model will be based on the modified version of the Heartect platform and come with significantly improved design and upmarket interior.

The motor will meet the upcoming stricter CAFÉ II (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards. The lower trims of the cars will continue to come with the existing 1.2L Dualjet petrol and CNG fuel options. Both manual and AMT gearboxes will be on offer.

In terms of features, the next-gen Swift and Dzire are expected to receive a new SmartPlay Pro+ touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity along with the Suzuki voice assist and OTA (over-the-air) updates.

Prices of the 2024 Maruti Swift and Dzire strong hybrid models will be around Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.50 lakh higher than their petrol counterparts.
