Suzuki, the Japanese carmaker, is gearing up to unveil its much-awaited premium hatchback- Codenamed YRA at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. This global product will also be launched in the Indian market next year. The vehicle has already been spotted several times during its test rounds in India, and a slew of spyshots have already hit the interweb. It will be positioned above the Swift hatchback and will rival against the likes of Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Elite i20 and soon to be launched Honda Jazz.

The YRA B+ segment hatchback will offer spacious cabin, and large boot space. The vehicle is likely to share its components with Maruti Ciaz. It is speculated to be sold with Baleno badging; however, the company hasn’t revealed anything on the same. The hatchback will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the petrol motor is the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged unit, the oil burner is the tried & tested 1.3-litre Multi-Jet unit. A five-speed manual gearbox would come as standard, while the petrol version will also get automatic transmission as an option. The YRA premium hatchback is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 5.5-9 lakh.

If media reports are to be believed, the YRA premium hatch will be 90kgs lighter than the Swift hatchback. The company has used the high tensile steel to keep its weight down, just like the Ciaz mid-sized sedan. Its light weight contributes to its high performance and fuel efficiency.
