We reported earlier that Suzuki is working on a premium hatchback, codenamed “YRA”, which is likely to go on sale in 2015-16. This premium hatchback will be positioned above the Swift hatchback and will take on the likes of Volkswagen Polo, Skoda Fabia and Honda Jazz. Interestingly, an anonymous prototype of Suzuki hatchback has been spotted during preliminary testing. This prototype could be the possible YRA premium hatchback; however, nothing has been confirmed on the same.
The spotted prototype was heavily camouflaged, indicating that the vehicle is currently in early testing phase. The front fascia of the features a lower front grille which is complemented by vertical strips of LED daytime running lights. If media reports are to be believed, this hatchback could feature the Baleno badge. This five-door hatchback looks like a mini-van, just like the Honda Jazz and Nissan Note. Also visible are the alloy wheels and low ground clearance. Adding to it, the vehicle looks slightly longer than 4 metre and it is expected to be spacious and feature rich.
The Maruti Suzuki YRA premium hatchback is expected to feature Suzuki’s all-new turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines. These engines are currently under development phase at Suzuki’s R&D centre in Japan. Moreover, the turbo petrol engine is the 1.0-litre 3-cylinder direct injection motor, codenamed K10 DiCT that produces 90bhp of power and 140Nm of torque. The details on the diesel engines are yet to be revealed.
The upcoming YRA premium hatchback is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 6-9 lakh. We expect that Maruti would present this hatchback at the 2016 Delhi Motor Show.
