Maruti Suzuki India introduced the Vitara Brezza subcompact SUV in 2016 and the model turned out to be a runaway success for the Indo-Japanese carmaker. The Maruti Vitara Brezza has average monthly sales of 14,675 units and commands over 44 per cent of market share in the compact SUV space. In the recent Global NCAP crash test, the Maruti Vitara Brezza received 4 star safety rating. Its body structure was rated stable, and it scored 2 stars in child occupant protection and 4 stars in adult occupant protection. Designed and developed for the Indian market, the subcompact SUV is currently available with a 1.3L DDis SHVS diesel engine with both manual and automatic transmission options.

The company will soon replace the 1.3L Multijet SHVS oil burner with a new 1.5L K15B diesel motor bootsted with SHVS mild hybrid technology. Rumours are also rife that the subcompact SUV might receive a 1.0L Boosterjet petrol engine that’s good for 100bhp and 150Nm of torque. It’s the same powertrain that does duty in the performance-oriented Baleno RS.

Reports suggest that Indo-Japanese carmaker will give a mid-life update to the Maruti Vitara Brezza. The updated version of the subcompact SUV will receive the new diesel and petrol engines along with minor design and feature upgrades. The Maruti Vitara Brezza petrol might share its powertrain with the new Ertiga – i.e. 1.5L K15B SHVS.
