Maruti Suzuki UV Sales Shoots Up; 2 New SUVs Coming Soon

In September 2022, Maruti Suzuki managed to sell 1,76,306 units against 86,380 units in the same month last year. The total wholesale sales of the company increased by double-folds. The Maruti Alto and S-Presso recorded sales of 29,574 units in the mini segment, while the Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S and WagonR’s combined sales stood at 72,176 units. The automaker retailed 1,359 units of the Ciaz mid-size sedan and 12,697 units of the Maruti Eeco van.

In the Utility Vehicle (UV) space, the Indo-Japanese automaker sold 32,574 units as opposed to 18,459 units of September 2021. The segment includes the all-new Grand Vitara, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6 and S-Cross. Earlier, the company revealed that it has outstanding bookings worth around Rs 25,000 for the new Brezza and Grand Vitara. The latter garnered over 57,000 bookings even before its market launch. The company says that the electronic component shortage had a minor impact on the vehicles’ production, especially in domestic models.

Maruti Suzuki’s first strong hybrid car – the Grand Vitara – recently went on sale in the country. The model comes in 10 variants and 6 trims, priced from Rs 10.45 lakh to Rs 1965 lakh (all, ex-showroom). It’s based on Suzuki’s Global C platform and features a 1.5L K15C smart hybrid and 1.5L Atkinson Cycle TNGA petrol hybrid powertrains. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox. Suzuki’s All Grip AWD system comes an optional offering.

The company will further strengthen its SUV market with the launch of two new SUVs – Baleno Cross and 5-door Jimny. Both models are reported to make their debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in January. The Maruti Baleno Cross (codenamed – YTB) could be offered with the BS6-compliant 1.0L Boosterjet petrol engine. The 5-door Maruti Suzuki Jimny is likely to come with the Grand Vitara’s 1.5L K15C petrol hybrid powertrain with both manual and automatic gearboxes.
