We informed you earlier that Maruti Suzuki is readying a wide range of new products to further strengthen its market position in India. According to Emkay Global Financial Services report, the Indo-Japanese brand is planning to introduce at least 3 new cars in the country over the next 2 years.
The report claims that the company will launch the XL5 UV-styled hatchback, new Suzuki Jimny mini off-roader and an all-new mid-sized SUV in India. The XL5 is basically the WagonR-based 3-row hatchback, which has already been spotted testing multiple times in India. The new model is rumoured to be sold through NEXA premium dealership.
Previous reports suggest that the India-spec Suzuki Jimny will be a 5-door model and will ride on longer wheelbase. The 5-door model could be called the new Gypsy and will rival the Mahindra Thar. This off-roader will be powered by a 1.5L K15B petrol engine that is capable of producing 103bhp and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. The SUV will receive Suzuki’s advanced all-grip 4×4 system.
The Maruti Suzuki’s mid-sized SUV is reportedly to be based on the Toyota’s DNGA platform that also underpins the Raize compact SUV. The new model is most likely to be launched in the first half of 2022. It will directly rival the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The new mid-sized SUV and the new Jimny will be sold through NEXA dealership network.
The report further claims that Maruti is also developing an all-new 800cc hatchback, which could replace the Alto. Additionally, the brand also plans to introduce an electric hatchback in India. The company will soon introduce the S-Cross petrol model in August 2020. MSIL could also introduce the diesel versions of the Ciaz, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, Ertiga and XL6. All these models could receive the BS6-compliant 1.5L engine.
