A new mid-sized SUV, codenamed YFG is co-developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota. Toyota will also have a different version of this SUV, internally called the Toyota D22. The new model will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based plant. The new Maruti YFG will be based on Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform that underpins the Toyota Raize & the new Avanza.

Not just platform, the new Maruti YFG SUV will also share the petrol-hybrid engine from Toyota. Moreover, the new SUV will also receive a petrol engine with manual and automatic gearbox. The new mid-sized SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor.

Maruti Suzuki will also introduce the long-wheelbase version of the Jimny lifestyle SUV in the country in 2023. This 5-door model will rival the likes of the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha. It will be powered by a 1.5L K15C dual-jet petrol engine with SHVS hybrid tech. This engine also powers the new Ertiga and the XL6. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

Maruti Electric SUV

MSIL is also working on a new coupe SUV, codenamed YTB for the Indian market. Positioned below 4 meters in length, the new Coupe SUV will come as a more premium alternative to the Vitara Brezza. It could be the production version of the Futuro-e Concept, which was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo.  The new model is likely to be based on Suzuki’s lightweight HEARTECT platform that underpins the Baleno, Ertiga and the Ciaz. It will be sold through NEXA premium dealerships. It is likely to be powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a stronger hybrid with a greater degree of electrification.
