Maruti Suzuki to Launch 2 Utility Vehicles in India

Suzuki Vitara Concept

In order to remain stable in the market, Maruti Suzuki has recently introduced the S-Presso mini SUV. The small car has received positive response from buyers. The Indo-Japanese brand believes that the existing small car buyers will upgrade to big vehicles in near future. SUVs are hot favorite and are likely to overtake hatchback segment in 2020.

The company will give a major makeover to its popular compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza in early 2020. The updated model will receive a petrol engine option, which is missing in the current car. The SUV will get the brand’s new 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system, which will also power the S-Cross.

What’s more interesting is that Maruti Suzuki is now readying 2 big utility vehicles for the Indian market. The company is working on an all-new premium SUV, which will challenge the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and the Kia Seltos. Adding to it, the brand is also developing an all-new C-segment MPV with the help of Toyota. The new C-MPV will sit between the Ertiga and the Innova Crysta, and is most likely to challenge the Mahindra Marazzo.

The Maruti Suzuki’s new premium SUV will be based on the C-platform, which currently underpins the Brezza and the global Suzuki Vitara. The report claims that the SUV will arrive in early 2022; however, we believe that the launch could take place in 2020-21. The company could showcase the concept version of the SUV at the 2020 Auto Expo. Earlier reports claim that Maruti Suzuki is also working on the turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine to power the new premium SUV.

Maruti Suzuki is also testing the S-Cross with the BSVI compliant 1.6-litre diesel engine. This engine is a Fiat-sourced engine, which was introduced in the S-Cross in 2015. The report further claims that Maruti Suzuki will produce these new models at the Toyota’s Bidadi plant. These two models are also likely to be shared with Toyota.
