Maruti Suzuki To Launch 2 New SUVs Above Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki is reportedly working on multiple new SUVs for the Indian market. The company will introduce the next-gen Vitara Brezza before the end of this year. Adding to it, MSIL will launch the 5-door Jimny and the Baleno-based crossover for the Indian market. What’s interesting is that the company will also launch 2 new SUVs above 4 meters.

Maruti Suzuki will launch an all-new crossover above the Vitara Brezza. Codenamed D22, the new crossover will come as a replacement for the S-Cross. It will be positioned below the Hyundai Creta. The Maruti-Toyota D22 crossover will be produced at Toyota’s manufacturing plant near Bangalore. The components used for the new crossover is likely to be sourced through Maruti Suzuki.

MSIL is also developing a new mid-sized SUV, which will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. This model is likely to be called the Grand Vitara. A new media report claims that the new MSIL SUV will be based on the Suzuki’s Global C-platform that also underpins the global Vitara and the existing Vitara Brezza. Codenamed YFG, the new Suzuki Grand Vitara is expected to be launched in 2022.

Similar to the crossover, the new-gen Grand Vitara will be produced at Toyota’s facility in Bidadi Karnataka. The production is likely to commence from 2022. It will be the first Suzuki product to be produced by Toyota in India under the Toyota-Suzuki partnership. This model is likely to be offered in 5-and 7-seat options. The 7-seater model will rival the new Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio/XUV500 and the upcoming Hyundai Creta 7-seater. The new SUV would be sold under both Suzuki and Toyota nameplates. The new model will be equipped with a strong gasoline hybrid engine.

Previous reports claim that the upcoming SUVs could be based on the Toyota’s DNGA (Daihatsu New Generation Architecture) platform, which is basically the low-cost version of the TNGA (Toyota New Generation Architecture). This platform currently underpins the Toyota Raize and the Daihatsu Rocky. The company is also working on a new mid-sized MPV, which is also expected to be based on this platform.
