Maruti Suzuki India is aiming to mark its strong presence in the premium cars segment including mid-sized sedan and compact SUV/Crossover segment. The company has recently launched the Ciaz mid-sized sedan, which replaces the aging SX4 sedan. Maruti is also gearing up to launch the new Alto K10, Swift and Dzire facelifts in next 2-3 months, but the company is giving more attention to its upcoming S-Cross SX4 crossover. This crossover will be priced around 8-12 lakh, and will rival against the likes of Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra XUV 500 and Scorpio.
First unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show as pre-production concept, the production spec model has received few updates to make it road compatible. The vehicle has already put on testing in India, and the fresh spyshots of the production spec model has revealed some important details about the car.
Based on the SX4 hatchback, the S-Cross crossover gets aggressive styling. The spotted vehicle features a triple slat horizontal chrome grille. It lacks roof rails, but the production spec model will feature roof rails in black shade. The grille is complemented by large headlamps that come integrated with daytime running LEDs.
The concept shown at the Auto Show had 170mm of ground clearance, but the production-spec model is expected to get a ground clearance of 180-200mm. Inside the cabin, the S-Cross SX4 is likely to share its interior components with the Swift hatchback.
The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is expected to be offered in diesel version only. There are two diesel engines on offer- a 120PS, 1.6-litre multi-jet motor and the 90PS, 1.3-litre multi-jet motor. While the powerful motor is expected to feature six-speed manual gearbox, the entry-spec models are likely to be offered with five-speed manual gearbox.
