India’s largest passenger carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has registered its highest ever domestic sales in the month of August, 2016. Stepping a way forward, the Indo-Japanese carmaker has achieved a sales growth of 12.2% with a total sales of 1.32 lakh units as against 1.17 lakh units in August, 2015. It is also performed well in the export market with sales of 2,280 units, registering a growth of 10.8%. Besides the Swift twins, Alto and WagonR, Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ciaz and Baleno did well for the company in the market.
According to a statement from Maruti Suzuki, the company has sold over 45,000 units of compact cars including Swift, Swift Dzire, Baleno, Ritz and Celerio. With these sales figures, the carmaker has registered around 10% growth. However, it saw a decline of 5.5% in the mini segment that includes WagonR and Alto. It’s the UV (Utility vehicle) segment that brought a major chunk for the Indo-Japanese carmaekr. With a total sales of 16,806 units, the company accounted a growth over 114% as against the previous year during the same month.
Talking about the new launches, Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to introduce the performance version of the Baleno (Baleno RS) and Ignis during the coming festive season. The Ignis will be the first-ever mini crossover from the Indo-Japanese carmaker in India. To be positioned below the Vitara Brezza, the Ignis will go up against the Mahindra KUV100. On the other hand, the Maruti Baleno RS will compete against the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and Ford Figo 1.5L.
