Maruti Suzuki SX4 S-Cross

Maruti Suzuki India is aiming to improve its market share in bigger cars. It is a well known fact that Maruti Suzuki rules the hatchback and entry level car segment; however, it failed to sell its bigger cars including SX4 sedan, Kizashi and others. Now, the company is aiming to introduce a couple of new products including Ciaz aka Suzuki Alivio sedan and SX4 S-Cross SUV in the country. While the Ciaz sedan will replace the aging SX4 sedan, the S-Cross will come as the flagship SUV product in the country.

Unveiled at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, the S-Cross is likely to be launched by the early 2015. The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 10-14 lakh, and it will compete against the likes of Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster and Mahindra XUV500.

The S-Cross SX4 is based on the aging SX4 sedan that has been on sale in India since 2006. This crossover gets familiar look and appears aggressive as well as masculine. At the front, the crossover sports three horizontal-slat black grille which incorporates Suzuki Logo in the centre. The grille is complemented by the large headlamps which are now integrated with daytime running LEDs. It also gets black plastic cladding all around the car to offer a rugged and sporty stance.

The interiors of the Suzuki S-Cross look quite closer to the ones found in the Swift hatchback. It is expected to get similar features to keep the costs down. However, the company might add some more features to justify its price tag.

The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. While the oil burner is likely to be the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine that produces 120bhp and 320Nm of torque, the petrol version is likely to get 1.6-litre petrol engine producing 120bhp and 156Nm of torque.
