Mumbai, Delhi Lead Road Safety Index Released by Maruti Suzuki India

Mumbai and Delhi topped the list with three titles each to their credit.

India’s leading carmaker, Maruti Suzuki India has released a Road Safety Index for 8 cities across India including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahemdabad and Hyderabad. Ground level surveys were conducted in these cities and reviews of citizens were also recorded to draw a conclusion. With positive reviews, two of the most popular metropolitan Indian cities-Mumbai and Delhi topped the list with three titles each to their credit.

The road safety index is structured across eight parameters-pedestrian rights, road lighting & maintenance, motor laws & traffic controls, emergency services, road cleanliness, connectivity, road infrastructure, road safety, differently-abled friendly, road quality and pollution control. Based on the surveys and public review, Mumbai has been rated as the best city in pedestrian rights, motor laws & traffic control and ease-of-use for differently-abled commuters. Following closely, India’s capital city, Delhi clinched away the title of best city with good connectivity, impressive road infrastructure and road quality. Kolkata emerged winner in a single category with best road lighting & maintenance.

Similarly, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Pune received one title each. Chennai got top-spot in emergency services and Ahmedabad emerged winner in road cleanliness category. Administrative entities and representatives of the winning cities were rewarded by Mr Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport, Highways and Shipping. The Road Safety Index released by Maruti Suzuki India, is an integral part of the carmaker’s India Road Safety Mission (IRSM). Maruti believes that the above ratings could be used by administrative authorities of the rated cities, to work towards the parameters where they lag behind.
