Maruti Suzuki Jimny Sierra Makes India Debut At Auto Expo 2020
The much-awaited Maruti Suzuki Jimny Sierra SUV finally breaks cover at the Auto Expo 2020. The carmaker has showcased it to gauge the visitors’ response before considering it for the Indian market. Globally, the SUV is offered in two variants – Jimny and Jimny Sierra. Suzuki’s Japan based plant serves as production hub for the vehicle. The Jimny Sierra derives is power from a 1.5L K15B petrol engine that does duty in the India-spec Ciaz sedan and Ertiga MPV. The motor is good enough for 100bhp and 130Nm of torque. For performing transmission duties, the SUV gets a torque converter automatic gearbox. It comes with Suzuki’s advanced 4X4 – AllGrip system. In Japanese market, the SUV is also offered with a 0.7L, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine pushing out a peak power of 64PS and 96Nm of torque.
Visually, the Maruti Jimny appears like a mini Mercedes G-Class. Styling elements such as boxy stance, round shaped headlamps, squared-off wheel arches and a flat roof give it a retro look. Similar to its predecessor (global-spec), the new Jimny sits on the ladder frame chassis. Though, it has been tweaked for offering better steering feedback and rigidity. The overall length and width of the Suzuki Jimny stand at 3395mm and 1475mm respectively. The SUV sits on a 2250mm long wheelbase. Compared to the Jimny Sierra, the Jimny is 155mm shorter, 170mm narrower and 5mm lower. The vehicle has a ground clearance of 205mm.
Interior of the Maruti Jimny shares resemblance to the new-generation Swift hatchback. The SUV offers a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. It also has a neatly designed dashboard and easy to access control buttons.
