In a bid to increase sales, Maruti Suzuki is readying a wide range of sports utility vehicle for the Indian market. The rising demand for SUVs also prompts India’s largest carmaker to bring in different set of SUVs. The company is working on 3 brand new SUVs including a micro SUV based on the Concept Future S. Adding to it, the company will also introduce the facelift version of the Vitara Brezza in early 2020.
India’s leading automaker, Maruti Suzuki is also planning to bring back the Gypsy nameplate. Media reports claim that the company will introduce the new generation Suzuki Jimny as the new-gen Gypsy. The India-spec model styling will be inspired by the new Jimny Sierra. Unlike the global model, the new Gypsy will be a 5-door SUV and will adorn a longer wheelbase. According to the Japanese media, the India-spec model will come with around 250mm longer wheelbase. The SUV is likely to receive the 104bhp, 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine. The company could utilise the 1.2-litre petrol engine. All-wheel-drive model is also likely to arrive in our market.
The Indo-Japanese brand is also readying the 5-seater premium SUV, which will preview the next-gen Vitara. The company is likely to showcase the concept version of the SUV at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo. The new model will directly rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster and the Kia Seltos. Adding to it, the company is reportedly working on the 7-seater version of the SUV that will challenge the Mahindra Scorpio and the next-gen Hyundai Creta 7-seater version.
Maruti Suzuki’s next model for our market will be a micro SUV, which is likely to be called the S-Presso. The new model will be based on the Suzuki’s new generation Heartect platform, which also underpins the new Wagon R and the Swift twins. The small SUV is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual gearbox and AMT unit.
Talking about the Vitara Brezza facelift, the sub-4 meter SUV will receive significant changes to exterior and interior. The compact SUV will also receive new features including sunroof. Adding to it, the facelift will be powered by a new 1.5-litre petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system that produces 103bhp and 138Nm.
