Maruti Suzuki Dzire Beats Alto To Become India’s Top Selling Car In 2018

From January to November 2018, the company retailed 247,815 units of the Dzire sedan.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the popular subcompact sedan from the Indo-Japanese carmaker, dethroned the Alto hatchback to become India’s best-selling car in 2018. From January to November 2018, the company managed to retail 247,815 units of the Dzire as opposed to 231,540 units of the Maruti Suzuki Alto. In 2017, the Maruti Dzire witnessed a generation change with significant design and feature upgrades along with the new ‘HEARTECT’ platform. Attributes such as improved styling, well-equipped interior and better performance have certainly favoured the sedan. With total sales of 211,840 units, the Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback was the third top-selling car of 2018. The Swift’s new-generation model marked its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. Maruti Suzuki Baleno hatchback and Vitara Brezza compact SUV stood at fourth and fifth positions with sales of 199,101 units and 145,799 units respectively. It’s Hyundai’s Elite i20 hatchback that grabbed the sixth spot with total sales of 129, 164 units. The premium hatch received a mid-life facelift in February, 2018. While the Hyundai Grand i10 registered sales of 122,799 units, the Creta recorded total sales of 113,274 units. The Maruti Suzuki Celerio stood at number nine with sales of 91,957 units, followed by the Tata Tiago. The latter recorded sales of 86,658 units between January – November, 2018.
