Maruti Suzuki Could Go All Petrol & CNG; No Diesel In Future

Maruti Suzuki plans CNG + Petrol hybrid engines for the future cars in India.

It is no secret that the demand for petrol cars are on rise, while the diesel demand is continuously shrinking in the past 2-3 years. The diesel cars demand will further reduce once the stringent BSVI emission norms from April 2020. For upgrading diesel engines to meet BSVI norms, automakers will have to invest heavily. This will further escalate the prices of diesel models, and the price gap between petrol and diesel cars will go up to Rs 2.5 lakh from the current 1 lakh.

India’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki is also in talks with the parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation on the future of diesel cars in India. Media reports claim that the Suzuki is also considering complete cease of production of diesel models. Instead, the company is looking at CNG option for its existing range. Moreover, Suzuki is inclined towards completely stopping production of diesel cars in India. The Japanese brand is planning to invest heavily in CNG as an alternative fuel. Maruti Suzuki will soon introduce the CNG equipped Ertiga MPV. Adding to it, the company is also planning CNG variants of the Dzire, Swift and Baleno. Maruti has recently joined hands with Toyota to develop electric cars, platforms and technologies for developing nations. Adding to it, Maruti is also planning to introduce strong hybrids in India.
