Maruti Suzuki compact SUV’s (XA-Alpha) testing begins- Spied

Maruti YBA Mini SUV

We reported earlier that Maruti Suzuki will launch the XA Alpha based compact SUV in the Indian car market in early 2016. The company has started testing the all-new sub-4 metre SUV, and Autocar India has the first spyshot of the mini SUV.  Going by the picture, we believe that the designing part of the car has been finalized and is ready to enter into production phase.

Set to rival Ford EcoSport, the mini SUV seems to share its styling with the iV-4 concept and XA Alpha. The front seems to be inspired with the new Vitara compact SUV, while the side profile borrowed from the XA Alpha concept shown at the 2012 Auto Expo.

If media reports are to be believed, the compact SUV is codenamed YBA. It is expected to be equipped with lots of features to give tough fight to EcoSport, and upcoming sub-4 metre SUVs from Volkswagen and Tata Motors. The sub-4 metre SUV is expected to share its engine lineup with Swift twins. While the petrol motor would be the 1.2-litre K Series unit, the oil burner is likely to be the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre MultiJet uniut.

Other reports suggest that MSI is also working on an all-new 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit, which is expected to power the YRA premium hatchback and the YBA compact SUV.
