Maruti Suzuki India has announced a reduction in the price of the popular Maruti Ciaz diesel SHVS due to approximately 50% drop in the excise duty on the mid-size sedan. The Maruti Ciaz SHVS, under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP), is benefited with excise duty reduction. Its excise duty has been deducted to 12.5% from 24%. However, one must note that prices of the Ciaz petrol remain unchanged.

Prices for the Ciaz SHVS have been slashed by as much as Rs 69,000 now. In the new price list, the Ciaz VDi (base variant) costs Rs 7.68 lakh and top-model ZDi+ is priced Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Earlier, the former was available at Rs 8.23 lakh and latter one cost Rs 10.18 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Introduced as replacement to the regular Ciaz diesel, the Maruti Ciaz SHVS Hybrid is powered by the 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine boasted with SVHS technology. This powertrain delivers a claimed power output of 88.5bhp at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. Mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox, it returns a class-leading fuel efficiency of 28.09 kmpl (ARAI certified figures). What makes it achieve such higher mileage figures is its SHVS system that combines an integrated starter generator, an auto start-stop system and brake energy recovery system.
