The new-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio is about to complete a year in the Indian market. With a revised design, improved features list and a more efficient petrol engine, it is quite a mature product compared to its predecessor. If you’re in the market for this compact hatch and confused between its variants? Fret not; we’re here to help you.
Specifications and Performance
Engine | 1L DualJet Petrol |
No Of Cylinders | 3 |
Power | 67PS (petrol) / 56.7PS (CNG) |
Torque | 89Nm (petrol) / 82Nm (CNG) |
Transmission | 5-speed manual/AMT |
Claimed Fuel Efficiency | Up to 25.23 kmpl (MT), 26.68 kmpl (AMT), 35.6km/kg (CNG) |
- Maruti Suzuki Celerio gets a 1-litre DualJet petrol engine ( 67PS/89Nm), mated to either a 5-speed manual or an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT). The same engine also powers the Maruti Alto K10, S-Presso and lower variants of the WagonR. Its CNG version, on the other hand, is only offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox that produces 56.7PS/82Nm.
- Thanks to its auto-idle start/stop function, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio is India’s most fuel-efficient hatchback, claiming to return up to 26.68kmpl in its petrol guise, while its CNG iteration returns up to 35.6km/kg.
- Speaking of the performance, it’s impressive how quickly the engine responds, allowing you to accelerate smoothly. Further helping you is its light clutch and easy gear slotting, making it a smooth & effortless machine for city use. Cruising at three-digit speeds is also effortless; however, overtaking will definitely require some planning. The AMT version, which is also easy & reasonably quick, is also available for buyers seeking a hassle-free experience.

Length | 3695mm |
Width | 1655mm |
Height | 1555mm |
Wheelbase | 2435mm |

With the same wheelbase as the WagonR, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio offers a generous amount of space and won’t give you a chance to complain about knee room, legroom and headroom. Its rear seat is flat and quite comfortable. Sitting two 6-footers one behind the other is also not an issue with the Celerio. However, sitting three adults comfortably on the rear bench will be challenging.
