Maruti Suzuki India has silently launched the CNG variant of the Celerio hatchback in the country. This model is priced at Rs. 4.92 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The new CNG variant is named as Maruti Celerio Green and is offered only in VXi trim.
Under the hood, the Maruti Celerio gets the same 1.0-litre KNext petrol engine that is capable of producing a top power output of 68PS, while the CNG model develops 10PS less during its run on CNG. This model is paired with the five-speed manual transmission gearbox. The Celerio Green is equipped with Maruti’s advanced i-GPI system that also powers the WagonR and Ertiga models. This factory fitted CNG kit sends the CNG into the combustion chamber of the engine which allows the driver to toggle between the pure CNG mode to pure petrol mode. To make the Celerio compatible with CNG, Maruti just need to alter the suspension setting of the compact car. Maruti Celerio CNG is claimed to return an impressive fuel economy of 31.79km/kg.
Maruti Suzuki India is also working on a new small diesel engine. If media reports to believe, the company will launch the Celerio with diesel power train by the end of this year or by early next year.
