Maruti Suzuki Celerio

India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki seems aggressive with its strategies for the Indian car market. The company is aiming to launch a series of new products including Ciaz sedan, SX4 S-Cross, Swift and Swift Dzire facelift. We reported earlier that Maruti will launch the diesel version of the Celerio hatchback in the country. Now, the company is planning to launch the CNG variant of the Maruti Celerio next month.

According to media report, the CNG unit will work together with the petrol engine. Launched at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, the Celerio is powered by the 1.0-litre petrol engine that produces 68bhp and 94Nm of torque. Mated to an AMT gearbox, the vehicle is claimed to offer an impressive fuel economy of 23.1kmpl. This numbers will only rise once it gets the CNG kit.

The Maruti Celerio will get the i-GPI CNG unit which is also equipped in WagonR, Alto 800, Ertiga and Eeco. This kit sends the CNG into the combustion chamber of the engine which allows the driver to toggle between the pure CNG mode to pure petrol mode. To make the Celerio compatible with CNG, Maruti just need to alter the suspension setting of the compact car.

It is also expected that the CNG variant will be offered with the VXi manual variant of the Celerio hatch.
