Next-generation Maruti A-Star to house 800cc Diesel engine

We all know that Maruti Suzuki is working on a new small car, which will replace the Maruti A-Star and the Estilo in India. The vehicle has already been spotted couple of times testing on the European roads.

According to Financial Express sources, the new car would be displayed at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, and more importantly the small car would be powered by the diesel engine which will go on board sometime in the later stages of the year. The car is internally known by the codename YL7.

The car will retain the same 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine, which also does duty in A-Star. However, nothing much has been revealed about the details of the new 800cc diesel engine, Maruti is speculated to target a fuel efficiency of 30kpl.

For instance, the smallest diesel engine available in the Indian car market is the Chevrolet Beat’s 1.0-litre engine. The upcoming 2014 Hyundai Grand i10 is also expected to be powered by a 1.1-litre diesel engine and it will sit between i10 and i20.
