In a bid to further increase its sales, the company is contemplating on launching the Maruti S Cross petrol version.
The Maruti S Cross petrol will derive its power from a M15 1.5-litre engine that is good for 100bhp.
It was September 2015, when Maruti S-Cross was launched in India with two diesel engine options – a 1.3-litre and a 1.6-litre multijet. Due to high pricing, the vehicle initially didn’t receive good feedback which then forced the company to reduce its prices. And as soon as the company cut down its prices, the vehicle actually started picking up in sales. As a matter of fact, the S-Cross is currently the top-selling crossover in the country. In a bid to further increase its sales, the company is contemplating on launching the Maruti S Cross petrol version.
Though the company hasn’t made any official statement about the engine that will power the upcoming Maruti S Cross petrol, a Autocar India report claims that it will be a M15 1.5-litre petrol engine. The report further claims that the same engine could also replace the Maruti Ciaz’s 1.4-litre K-series engine. With rising demand for petrol-engined vehicles in the country, the move to bring in the S-Cross petrol might surely work in favour of the company. While a 5-speed manual gearbox will come as standard with the S Cross 1.5L M15 petrol engine, there might also be a 4-speed automatic gearbox on offer.
The Maruti S Cross petrol model will look identical to the diesel variant, as the vehicle will not receive any cosmetic or feature upgrades. Having said that, the company might bring in a special edition of the S Cross during this year’s festive season. The special edition will be the same that was showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The special edition model will get features such as chrome accents on front bumper, wing mirrors in matt black finish, alloy wheels with darker shade, rear spoiler with black finish, etc.
As mentioned earlier, the Maruti S Cross petrol will feature a M15 1.5-litre petrol engine. Mated to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox, this engine churns out a maximum power output of 100bhp at 5900rpm and 133Nm at 4100rpm.
Maruti Suzuki cars are known for offering high fuel efficiency, and the S Cross petrol will not be any different. We expect this engine to return a mileage around 16-17kmpl.
Though the company hasn’t revealed the S Cross petrol’s launch details, we expect it to come during the festive season or by the end of this year. We’ll update you on this as and when the company says something.
The S Cross diesel range is priced between Rs 8 lakh – Rs 12 lakh, we expect its petrol range to cost between Rs 7.50 lakh – Rs 10 lakh.
