Maruti Suzuki Alto Crosses 40 Lakh Sales Milestone

Maruti Suzuki India has announced that the Alto hatchback has achieved 40 lakh sales milestone in the country. The small car, which was launched 20 years ago, created a major buzz right off the bat due to its fuel efficiency, practicality and affordability. It has been India’s top-selling car for 16 consecutive years and still gathering volume for the carmaker.

The Maruti Alto had crossed 10 lakh sales mark in 2008, followed by 20 lakh in 2012 and 30 lakh in 2016. It’s the first entry-level car in the country to meet BS6 emission norms along with the latest crash and pedestrian safety standards.

At present, the Maruti Alto comes in 6 petrol and 2 CNG variants priced between Rs 2.94 lakh – Rs 4.36 lakh (ex-showroom). The model comes with a BS6-compliant 800cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the petrol variant delivers a claimed power of 47.3bhp with 69Nm, the CNG model returns 41bhp.

Some of its key features include SmartPlay Studio infotainment system with 7.0-inch touchscreen, power steering, front power windows, remote locking, manual AC unit with heater, dual-tone interior, dual front airbags, reverse parking sensors, seatbelt reminders, speed alert system and ABS with EBD.
