Maruti’s AGS technology is currently available across the seven model lineups.

Maruti Suzuki’s AGS (Auto Gear Shift) technology has been a game changer in the Indian automobile industry. Developed especially for Indian buyers, this affordable automatic transmission ensures fuel economical and hassle free city drivability. The Maruti Celerio was the first Indian car to receive the AGS technology in 2014. Currently, Maruti’s AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) unit has been introduced across the seven model lineups including Ignis, Alto K10, Celerio WagonR, Swift, Dzire and Vitara Brezza.

Now, the Indo-Japanese carmaker has achieved a new sales milestone by selling over 3 lakh AGS cars in the country. Considering the high demand of the Maruti AGS-equipped models, the carmaker aims to cross over 2 lakh sales in the current fiscal year. Check Out – Upcoming Maruti Cars in India

Commenting on the success of the Auto Gear Shift technology, R S Kalsi, Senior Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “At Maruti Suzuki, we believe in providing our customers with the best of technology and convenience. The revolutionary Auto Gear Shift technology is one such innovation that offers comfort and ease of driving to the customers with no compromise on fuel efficiency. It has achieved wide acceptance among customers. Crossing 3-lakh retail sales mark within five years of its introduction is a reflection of the success and consent of the customers for the two-pedal technology. With enhanced awareness and deeper penetration, we aim to sell over 200,000 cars with AGS in 2018-19.” Read – Maruti Swift Hybrid Might Come To India

Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Celerio AGS model accounts 43 percent of the car’s total sales. Similarly, the Ignis and Dzire AGS variants are in great demand accounting 28 percent and 17 percent of their retail sales respectively. The Vitara Brezza is the latest Maruti model to receive the AGS technology.

Maruti Suzuki’s AGS unit is essentially the Magneti Marelli-sourced manual gearbox with an intelligent hydraulic actuator. The actuator consists of TCU (Transmission Control Unit) paired to the EUC (Electronic Control Unit). Information is delivered to the TCU via multiple sensors (such as the engine rpm sensor, throttle position sensor and the ECU), and then directed to hydraulic actuator for shifting up or down the gear range and clutch.
