Maruti S Presso Small SUV – What We Know So Far

Codenamed Y1K, the S Presso is scheduled to be launched during festive season before Diwali 2019.

It is no secret that Maruti Suzuki is working on an all-new mini SUV, which was first previewed as Concept Future S at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. It was speculated that the new mini SUV could be called the new “Maruti Suzuki ZEN”; however, new media reports claim that the car could be called the Maruti S Presso. Codenamed Y1K, the S Presso is scheduled to be launched during festive season before Diwali 2019. The upcoming small SUV will take on the likes of the Renault Kwid, the Mahindra KUV100 and the upcoming Tata H2X.

The Maruti S-Presso micro-SUV will be based on the new Suzuki’s HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the new Wagon R and the Ignis. This platform is compatible enough to meet the upcoming crash test and safety norms. The new model will be equipped with standard safety features and BSVI compliant engine. The Maruti S-Presso micro-SUV has already been spotted testing multiple times on Indian roads. The spy images reveal the brand’s new design direction. The vehicle comes with an upright front fascia with short bonnet and big pillars along with high ground clearance. Upfront is a wraparound headlamps with LED daytime running lights, bigger front bumper and Wagon R type front grille. At the back, the S-Presso will come with wrap-around tail-lights, roof rails and beefier bumper with black plastic cladding. The mini SUV is expected to be equipped with 14-15-inch wheels.

Inside the cabin, the Maruti S-Presso comes with modern comfort and convenience features. It will get the Suzuki’s SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. This touch will also work as a display for the rear parking camera. Designed and developed by MSIL’s R&D facility in Rohtak, Haryana, the Maruti S-Presso will be sold exclusively through Maruti Suzuki ARENA dealership network. The crossover is likely to receive a BS6 compliant 1.0-litre K-Series petrol engine that also powers the Wagon R. Both manual and AMT versions will be on offer.
