Maruti S-Presso small SUV to target first time car buyers

Maruti S Presso SUV

Facing massive slowdown, Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest carmaker is banking on the upcoming small SUV S-Presso to improve sales in the market. This will be the brand’s most affordable and the smallest SUV, which will target the first time car buyers. The Indian auto industry is facing an unprecedented slowdown with sales down by 31% in July 2019. With S-Presso, Maruti Suzuki is hoping to regain the lost market.

Maruti Suzuki’s small cars – Alto and Celerio also witnessed a massive negative growth. The company believes that the S-Presso could turn the tables in favour for the Indo-Japanese brand. Based on the Future S concept showcased at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo, the S-Presso is completely designed and developed by Suzuki’s Indian arm. It will be the latest Maruti to be introduced in the sub-5 lakh category. Also See – Maruti Suzuki S-Presso – 6 Expected Features

The Maruti S-Presso will be sold through ARENA dealership market and will target the mass market segment. Featuring bold cross-over SUV design with high-riding position, the small SUV will directly rival the Renault Kwid and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT. Maruti Suzuki believes that the new S-Presso will bring in the first time car buyers to its showrooms. Though the entry-level segment is not likely to grown dramatically, but it will still have a significant market share.

The Maruti S-Presso will meet the upcoming safety and crash test norms. All variants of the vehicle will receive standard safety features including dual airbags, seat belt reminder, rear parking sensors and ABS (anti-lock braking system). The small SUV will receive the Suzuki’s Studio smartplay infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. It will be based on the lightweight and flexible Heartect platform that also underpins the WagonR, Swift, Dzire, Ertiga, Ignis and Baleno. It is likely to receive the BS6 compliant 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 81.80bhp and 113Nm. It might also get a 1.0L, 3-cylinder engine. Transmission options are likely to include a 5-speed manual and AMT.
