Maruti S-Cross Petrol To Rival Kia Seltos; Sales Training Starts

Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the petrol version of the S-Cross crossover in the country. In fact, sales training for the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross 1.5L petrol version has also been commenced at NEXA premium dealerships. With the introduction of BS6 emission norms, Maruti Suzuki has already discontinued diesel cars from the Indian market. All MSIL cars are now available with petrol engine option.

Maruti Suzuki had launched the Vitara Brezza petrol earlier this year. This compact SUV was available in single diesel version, which was discontinued from the market. Now, the S-Cross will receive a petrol derivative. The Maruti S-Cross Petrol BS6 version was unveiled at the 2020 Auto Expo. It was speculated to be launched in April; however, launch has been delayed due to COVID-19.

The Maruti S-Cross petrol will receive the 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine with SHVS mild hybrid system with an Inetgrated Starter Generator (ISG) and an additional battery. This mild-hybrid system is claimed to improve the fuel efficiency of the petrol-powered crossover by 10%.

The 1.5L petrol engine is capable of producing 104bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed torque convertor automatic. What’s more interesting is that Maruti Suzuki will pitch the S-Cross against the popular Kia Seltos. The Crossover will also challenge the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the upcoming Skoda Vision IN and the VW Taigun.
