India has waited for so long for the Jimny SUV that finally made its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo. Well, that was first glimpse and we are still hoping it to hit our roads so soon. If reports are to be believed, the Maruti Jimny Sierra has been planned for India. Here, we have brought you top 6 facts about the Jimny SUV.
1. Five-door Version For India
At the biennial event, the carmaker showcased the three-door version of the Jimny Sierra SUV. In India, the Indo-Japanese carmaker will bring in the more practical five-door version of the vehicle. It will be introduced as a lifestyle product and come as a replacement to the aging Maruti Suzuki Gypsy.
2. Rugged Styling
The Jimny carries old-school boxy stance with rugged styling and compact dimensions. Upfront, the SUV features a five-slat grille, circular LED headlamps, blackened bumper and fog lamps with pronounced air intakes. 3. 4WD System
In India, the Maruti Jimny Sierra will be made available with 4WD (four-wheel-drive) system enhancing its off-road capabilities. Powering the off-road SUV will be a 1.5L, 4-cylinder petrol engine that’s good enough for 100bhp and 130Nm of torque. It can be had either with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.
4. Feature Packed
Interior of the Jimny Sierra will be packed with lots of goodies. The SUV comes equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also offers automatic AC unit, audio and climate controls, heated front seats, cruise control and many more features. On the safety front, the Jimny offers multiple airbags, lane departure warning, a seat belt reminder, ISOFIX child seat mounts and autonomous emergency braking system.
5. Priced Below Rs 10 Lakh
The Maruti Jimny Sierra will be retailed via Nexa premium dealerships across the country. Prices of the off-road SUV will be below Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). If launched at this price point, it will take on the new-generation Mahindra Thar that’s due for the next month (April, 2020).
6. Expected Launch
There is no official word about its India launch timeline, but reports suggest that it will hit Indian shores by the end of 2020 or early 2021. It’s reported to enter into production in May, 2020. The SUV will be manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Sanand based facility in Gujarat. The same plant is likely to serve as production hub for several global markets. The company aims to make around 4000-5000 units of the Jimny and most of them will be exported.
