Maruti Suzuki Ignis Becomes India’s Top Selling Crossover In June

Maruti Suzuki Ignis entered the Indian market in early 2017. With its unique styling, upmarket interior and refined engines, the mini crossover is wooing millennial. In June 2018, the Ignis registered total sales of 4,514 units as against 1,357 units of the Mahindra KUV100 NXT.

Maruti’s crossover also beats the newly-launched Ford Freestyle that recorded sales of 2,554 units in June, 2018. In fact, the premium crossovers such as Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Honda WR-V and Toyota Etios Cross also failed to match the Ignis’s sales figure. Within first year of its arrival, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis recorded total sales of 48,285 units making it India’s one of the 30 top-selling cars in 2017.

Design is one of the major purchasing factors among Indian buyers, and the Ignis is fairly unconventional in this department. Buyers have polarized opinions about its looks. Though, its compact dimensions and well-packed interior make it quite practical machine for day-to-day city commute. Engine setup of the Maruti Suzuki Ignis includes a 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel unit. The gasoline unit delivers 81.8bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The oil burner, on the other hand, makes power worth 74bhp at 4,000rpm against 190Nm of torque at 2,000rpm.
