Maruti Grand Vitara is surely one of the much-awaited and biggest new car launches of this year. It will mark Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the mid-size SUV segment that’s currently dominated by Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. Interestingly, the Vitara will be the most advanced and expensive SUV from the Indo-Japanese automaker in the country. At present, the Maruti XL6 MPV is the brand’s flagship model that costs between Rs 11.29 lakh – Rs 14.55 lakh (all, ex-showroom).
While its official prices are slated to reveal in coming months, the new Maruti Vitara SUV is reported to be priced at Rs 9.50 lakh for the base variant. If launched at this price point, it will undercut its arch rival – the Creta, which is priced from Rs 10.44 lakh to Rs 18.18 lakh. With aggressive pricing, Maruti Suzuki will surely snatch Creta’s customers. Official bookings for the model have already been commenced at an initial sum of Rs 11,000.
As mentioned above, the new Maruti Grand Vitara will be the brand’s most advanced model offering the segment-first AllGrip AWD (all-wheel-drive) system. For people not in the know, the globally sold Suzuki Vitara and S-Cross offer ‘AllGrip Select’ system. The upcoming Vitara will be the company’s first model in India to offer this feature. Similar to the Toyota Urban Cruiser, the new Maruti SUV will come with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, leather seat upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, a 360 degree camera, automatic AC unit, Head-Up Display, a digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats and connected car tech.
Besides equipment, the new Maruti Vitara SUV will share its powertrain with the upcoming Toyota mid-size SUV. That means, the setup will include a 1.5L K15C Dualjet and 1.5L TNGA Atkinson cycle petrol with the high-voltage hybrid architecture. The SUV model lineup can be had with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.
