Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder – Strong Hybrid In Demand

The all-new Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder are surely one of the two big new car launches of this year. Both models are ready to hit roads in September 2022. The SUVs, which have been co-developed by Maruti Suzuki and Toyota, share platform, hybrid powertrains, design elements and features. Interestingly, the Grand Vitara will be the brand’s first strong hybrid car in the country. The carmaker has confirmed that the strong hybrid variants of both SUVs are high in-demand.

The Indo-Japanese automaker received 44% bookings for the Maruti Grand Vitara strong hybrid model. As per media sources, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder strong hybrid variants garnered around 75% of the total bookings. The SUVs will be made available with Toyota’s 1.5L TNGA Atkinson Cycle engine paired to an electric motor and Suzuki’s 1.5L K15C mild hybrid engine. The strong hybrid setup makes a combined power of 115bhp with an eCVT gearbox. It’s torque output stands at 122Nm (engine) and 141Nm (motor).

The mild hybrid powertrain returns a claimed power of 103bhp and 137Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the strong hybrid powertrain will deliver fuel efficiency of 27.97kmpl. The mild hybrid variants will be available with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The automatic version will also come with the paddle shifters and Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD technology. The Maruti Grand Vitara mild hybrid version promises 21.118kmpl with 2WD manual, 20.58kmpl with 2WD automatic and 19.38kmpl with AllGrip AWD setup.  

Features such as a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system a digital driver display, a 360 degree camera, head-up display, connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, rain sensing wipers, hill descent/hold assist, 6 airbags, full LED lighting with auto headlamps are available on both models. Though, the aforementioned fitments are reserved for the range-topping variants.
