The new Grand Vitara production will commence from August 2022. It will be produced at Toyota’s Bidadi based manufacturing plant near Bangalore in Karnataka. The same production line will also be used to produce the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

The new Grand Vitara is designed and developed on Suzuki’s Global-C platform that also underpins the Brezza, S-Cross and the global Vitara. Suzuki has made some changes to the platform to accommodate a longer wheelbase model. In the Global NCAP crash test, the Global-C platform was found stable and capable to withstand further loading.

3. Engine Options

The new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara will share the engine options with the new Hyryder. It will come with two engine options – a Suzuki’s 1.5L K15C Dual-Jet, Dual VVT petrol with a mild hybrid setup and a Toyota’s 1.5L 3-cylinder petrol with a strong-hybrid tech.

The Suzuki’s 1.5L petrol engine is the same unit that powers the Brezza. This engine churns out 101bhp of power and 136.8Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic. It will also get an AWD system, which is Suzuki’s AllGrip all-wheel-drive unit. However, the AWD will come with the manual version only. The AllGrip all-wheel-drive system will offer 4 driving modes – Auto, Sand, Snow and Lock. In the auto mode, the AWD system intelligently sense terrain and vary torque to the wheels on demand.

The Toyota’s 1.5L petrol engine is capable of producing 91bhp and 122Nm of torque. It is coupled to a synchronous AC motor that pushes out 79bhp and 141Nm. The maximum usable power and torque stands at 114bhp and 141Nm respectively. It is coupled to an e-CVT gearbox.
