Maruti Grand Vitara (Creta Rival) – Top 5 Things To Know

India’s largest carmaker, Maruti Suzuki has recently launched the new Brezza sub-4 meter SUV in the country. The company has dropped “Vitara” suffix from the name, which allows Maruti to use this name for the upcoming SUV. MSIL is now ready to introduce its new compact SUV on July 20, 2022. Called the Maruti Grand Vitara, the new mid-sized SUV will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, VW Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq.

Launch & Booking Details

The new Maruti Grand Vitara will make global debut on July 20, 2022. Interested buyers can book the new SUV online or at authorised Nexa dealership by paying a token amount of Rs 11,000. While official launch timeline is yet to be announced, the new SUV is expected to be introduced in August 2022.

To Be Produced At Toyota’s Karnataka Plant

Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the new Grand Vitara and the Toyota HyRyder SUVs will be produced at Toyota’s production facility in Bidadi, Karnataka. Previous reports suggest that the SUV will be developed on the same production line which was used to produce the discontinued Yaris sedan.

Based On Suzuki’s Global-C Platform

It was speculated that the new Grand Vitara will be based on Toyota’s heavily localised TNGA-B or DNGA platform; that’s not the case. MSIL and Toyota have officially announced that the new SUVs are designed and developed by Suzuki with the help of Toyota’s expertise. This platform currently underpins the Brezza, S-Cross and the global-spec Vitara.

Engine Options

The new Maruti Grand Vitara will be offered with two engine options – a 1.5-litre K15C dualjet petrol engine with mild hybrid tech and a Toyota’s 1.5-litre TNGA petrol engine with strong hybrid system. The former is capable of producing 101bhp of power and 137Nm of torque. Transmission choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed torque convertor automatic.

The 1.5L TNGA Atkinson Cycle engine is good for 92bhp and 122Nm. It is paired to an electric motor that offers 79bhp and 141Nm of torque. The combined power output stands at 117Nm and maximum usable torque is 141Nm. It features a 177.6V lithium-ion battery and claims to offer an electric only range of up to 25km. It will be paired to a Toyota’s e-drive transmission. While the mild hybrid version will come with front-wheel-drive & all-wheel-drive setup, the strong hybrid variants will only be offered with front-wheel-drive layout.

High-End Features

The Grand Vitara will have high similarities in terms of styling and features with the HyRyder. It will come with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, voice assistant and Arkamys sound system. Feature list will include connected car tech, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, front ventilated seats, wireless charger, a 360 degree camera, Head-Up-Display or HUD, leather seats, cruise control, 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, hill decent control and vehicle stability control.
