Maruti Grand Vitara CNG Coming Soon – What To Expect?

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara has been doing really well for the Indo-Japanese automaker in terms of sales. In its very first month of arrival, the model became India’s third top-selling mid-size SUV with sales over 8,000. It’s the brand’s first strong hybrid vehicle in the country. Currently, the Maruti Grand Vitara comes with the 103bhp, 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and 115bhp, 1.5L, 3-cylinder Atkinson cycle petrol powertrain options. Transmission choices include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed torque convertor automatic and an e-CVT. Suzuki’s AllGrip AWD system is reserved for the mild hybrid manual variants.

Now, the company will soon introduce the CNG version of the Grand Vitara. Similar to the Toyota Hyryder CNG, the Maruti Grand Vitara CNG is likely to come with the Suzuki’s 1.5L K15C, 4-cylinder petrol engine. The same gasoline motor with a factory-fitted CNG kit is available in the XL6 and Ertiga CNG models. While the regular petrol unit makes power worth 101bhp and 137Nm of torque, the CNG version will be slightly less powerful and torqueier. The Maruti Grand Vitara CNG will be made available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Its mileage will be 26.10km/kg, which is slightly less than the XL6 CNG that promises 26.32km/kg.

Maruti Grand Vitara Launch Date

The CNG kit could be offered only on the mid-spec Delta and Alpha trims and priced slightly premium over their standard petrol counterparts. The Maruti Grand Vitara CNG will be the second mid-size SUV in India to come with CNG fuel option.

The Indo-Japanese automaker is also set to bring in the Maruti Brezza CNG in coming weeks. The model has already started arriving at dealerships. It will be offered in 7 variants powered by a 1.5L K15C petrol engine and CNG kit. The setup will deliver a peak power of 87bhp and 122Nm. It’s fuel efficiency will be around 25-30km/kg.
